Are you looking for a simple bridal veil? Let’s face it, your wedding is probably the only time that you’ll ever wear a bridal veil, and selecting the right one is important. It finishes the look and adds a touch of elegance to your wedding outfit.

Interestingly, I’ve seen how selecting the right bridal veil can be a source of stress for brides. There are so many bridal veil options to choose from that you can easily feel overwhelmed.

Where do you start?

How do you know which one to select?

Of course, everyone has an opinion. Some might want you to choose an ornate and over-the-top veil, while you have your heart set on wearing a simple bridal veil. If you’re thinking about and looking for a

What is a Simple Bridal Veil?

A simple bridal veil won’t take away from your dress. An overly embellished or decorated veil can take away from the beauty of your dress—and you want to be the star of the show! A quick rule of thumb is the more elaborate the wedding dress, the simpler the bridal veil. A simple bridal veil will compliment your dress without upstaging it and is more versatile for brides who are having a less formal ceremony. Whether you’re having a traditional church wedding or a more relaxed outdoor ceremony, a simple bridal veil will work with any wedding theme. By contrast, an ornate veil may look out of place in a more informal setting.

A simple bridal veil is timeless. Veils can be handed down from generation to generation. We all know the phrase: “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” Wearing a veil that was worn by your mother (or even grandmother) is emotionally magical. If you want your veil to be something you can pass down to your daughter or granddaughter, then stick to a simple bridal veil in a classic style that won’t go out of fashion.

A simple bridal veil is often less expensive. This seems fairly obvious, but it’s worth mentioning nonetheless: a simple bridal veil will be less expensive than one with lots of pearls, beads, sequins, and other adornments. If you just don’t see the need to spend a fortune on something you’ll only wear once, then a simple bridal veil is definitely the way to go.  If you are a bride who is interested in making a simple bridal veil, Millinery Treasures has a DIY tutorial with step-by-step instructions.  Click here to check it out.

Here’s what to consider (or not consider) when selecting your simple bridal veil

1. Simple Bridal Veil  – Shoulder-length with blusher

By now you have figured out that wedding veils come in a variety of lengths. If you are looking for a simple bridal veil, you might want to focus on a shoulder-length or an elbow-length bridal veil as both of these lengths are no-fuss options.  These bridal veils can be worn with or without a blusher. The shoulder-length bridal veil ends around your shoulders and is slightly shorter than the elbow-length bridal veil, which ends (drum roll please) at your elbow.  The exact length will vary according to how tall you are and where you are attaching the veil to your hair. Figure around 24-36 inches for the bridal veil but remember that you’ll need to add more length if you want a blusher.

2. Simple Bridal Veil Idea – Sheer cut edge

A sheer cut-edge veil is an important element to consider when selecting your simple bridal veil.  It can add a playful look and capture a whimsical aspect of your personality.  The cut-edge finish on the tulle creates a seamless visual transition and looks like it is barely there.

3. Simple Bridal Veil Idea – Avoid embellishments

Many wedding veils are embellished with a variety of details such as lace, crystals, pearls, or even flowers. These embellishments can be sewn onto the fabric of the veil or added to the comb. They can be gorgeous, but add weight and focus the eye on the veil.  Avoid veils with embellishments if you are looking for a simple bridal veil with a classic, timeless look.

4. Simple Bridal Veil Idea – Drop wedding veil

In searching for a simple bridal veil, you might want to investigate a drop wedding veil.  This type of bridal veil completely covers the bride in a sheer layer of tulle.  The veil is draped over the head and sits flat on the head. It is not gathered on the comb which creates a light, cascading effect of tulle. Gathering the tulle makes the veil more opaque and less translucent.  A drop wedding veil may be long and extend to the floor, which brings us to the last point…

5. Simple Bridal Veil Idea – Go long

While most people immediately think a simple bridal veil is short, I like to think that a simple bridal veil is less about the length and more about the effect. A simple bridal veil creates a transparent, ethereal effect in which the bride appears wrapped in a divine cloud. Perhaps that is a convoluted way of saying that a simple bridal veil can be short, or long. A longer veil can look fabulous in pictures and can create a dreamy, romantic look.  Just make sure that your veil doesn’t have embellishments or edging.
